Microchip Implantation

Microchipping will give you peace of mind knowing that your pet will be quickly found. It also provides protection for travel and proof of ownership in case your pet is stolen or lost. Microchips are tiny, rice-sized computer chips that are implanted in your pet just under the skin between the shoulder blades, each having its own unique identifying number to easily identify your pet. In a quick and simple procedure, they are inserted with a hypodermic needle; much like when your pet receives a vaccine. They cannot be seen or felt after insertion; and are only detectable by a microchip scanner which most if not all veterinary clinics and animal shelters always have on hand to scan lost and found pets to quickly re-unite them with their owners.

Our hospital uses universal ISO compliant microchips from the company "24-Petwatch" ; information for which can be found online on their website. Always remember to contact the microchip company after implantation to ensure your pet has been properly registered with accurate data, that your contact information is up to date (especially if you have recently moved or changed your number) and to add an emergency contact person to your file.

It is usually recommended to have your pet microchipped at the same time as having them spayed or neutered while they are sedated so as not to feel the needle. However, Implantation is still very quick and easily done while they are awake (light sedation or topical local freezing available if needed to make insertion more comfortable for your pet depending on their temperament). Microchip implantation is very affordable - call for more info.
